A Look Back at our Holiday Season Pt. 2

I love December for all that it encompasses- Christmas, family, friends, festivities, Christmas carols, gift-giving, good food, and the crisp weather. This year was no different.

Lexie and Evan met my wonderful Auntie Inday for the first time. Auntie Inday stopped for a visit en route from the Philippines to her new home in Pennsylvania, where she’ll be staying with my cousin Clarice & her family.

Hopefully, we'll get to see her again soon!

Other “Firsts” this month were Lexie’s first plane ride (destination: Vegas) and her first (and hopefully her last) trip to the Pediatric ER. More on the latter in a bit.

Waiting for our flight to meet up with Mom & Dad H in Las Vegas

En-route and enjoying herself for the most part. I'll say this, though.... Lexie is one ACTIVE traveller! We had to entertain her the WHOLE way there.

Here's the tail end of the plane ride, as she started getting antsy.

Vegas, baby!

In less than 12 hours from landing in Vegas, we were here... at the Pediatric ER.

Lexie had a 103.2 fever and was writhing in pain from earaches. She had had a slight ear infection earlier that week; and was fighting a cold. I initially did not want to have her take antibiotics, since her Pediatrician said the ear infection was mild and this would be her third go-around with antibiotics. However, when I informed him that we would be flying in a couple of days, her Pediatrician strongly recommended a milder and shorter dose of antibiotics. He didn't think that flying would aggravate her condition.

In hindsight, we think that the plane ride- albeit short- did exacerbate her ear condition. She didn't show any signs of discomfort on the plane ride or even on the ascent or descent; but she was obviously bothered by something once we got to the hotel.

After chest x-rays and a urine analysis test, the ER doctor ruled out pneumonia and a UTI, which left the only other option... a viral infection, which is untreatable. Try telling that to a sick child... or her worried sick parents. uuugh.

Fortunately, Lexie got better by the day, as we took "shifts" in caring for her.

While Mom & Dad H ran errands and conducted their business during the day, we watched over Lexie. They took over in the evenings, so that Steve and I could step our and grab some dinner and stretch out legs on the strip.

Here's us during the evenings that we stepped away for food and fun.

Still at the Venetian.
This was that boutique where Michael Jackson famously dropped some seven-figures during his "Living with Michael Jackson" documentary.
Exploitation much? (Look at the MJ documentary on re-run at the front of the store.)

This was Lexie's only taste of Vegas... right before we went home.

More December goings-on, including Christmas, in another post. Stay tuned!
