I received the results of my one hour Glucose Challenge Screening test today. This screening is designed to identify, during weeks 24-28, those moms-to-be who may have gestational diabetes.
Also, the the Nurse informed me that I'm anemic and must now take two Iron pills per day, as well as eat good portions of green leafy veggies, nuts, and red meat. While I was disconcerted to learn of my low red blood cell count, I can't say I'm very surprised given how exhausted and breathless I've been feeling the last month or so- which is supposedly the "honeymoon" stage of a pregnancy.
All in all, I'm bummed about today's news.
From the title of this post, as well as the photo above, you can hazard a guess what the results were. Not only did I not pass, but I wasn't even close. Normal blood values for this kind of test are: 140 mg/d or below. If one's blood value exceeds 200 mg/d, then that that is a reasonably strong indicator of GD. I got a 190 mg/d. I don't know if it's glass half full (yah! I'm less than 200mg/d). Or glass half empty (boo! I'm so close to 200!)
So anyway, I have to take the THREE HOUR Glucose Tolerance test this Thursday. Also, the the Nurse informed me that I'm anemic and must now take two Iron pills per day, as well as eat good portions of green leafy veggies, nuts, and red meat.
